Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Christopher J.S. Johnson has been appointed by Director Christopher Wray as the special agent in charge of the Springfield Field Office in Illinois.
Johnson joined the FBI in 2004, initially working on violent crimes and crimes against children at the Detroit Field Office. He was promoted in 2009 to supervisory special agent in the Crimes Against Children Unit at FBI Headquarters, later transferring to the St. Louis Field Office in 2010, where he continued his focus on violent crimes, crimes against children and gang-related issues.
In 2011, he joined the FBI’s Child Abduction Rapid Deployment (CARD) Team, eventually leading the team for the North Central and South Central regions. The CARD Team, consisting of 75 agents and personnel, trains and assists local law enforcement in child abduction cases.
Johnson returned to the St. Louis Field Office in 2014 to supervise a squad investigating violent gangs and transnational organized crime. He was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the Detroit Field Office’s Mission Services and Administrative Branch in 2020, and in 2022, he was named an inspector at FBI Headquarters. Before joining the FBI, Johnson was a police officer in the St. Louis metropolitan area and holds degrees in criminal justice, psychology, and management.
