Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) -Lincoln Land Community College has named Steve Torricelli as its new head baseball coach, succeeding Ron Riggle in the position.

Originally from Springfield, Torricelli is a 1986 graduate of Springfield High School. He went on to play at Eastern Illinois University in the fall of 1986 under Coach Tom McDevitt, where he pitched for two years. After his time as a player, he transitioned to the coaching staff as a student assistant coach for Dan Callahan.

Torricelli, known to his players as “Coach Tor”, has head coaching experience ranging from the high school level to four-year university. In 1999, he became the head coach of Springfield College in Illinois. In 2003 and 2008 he was selected as Conference Coach of the Year for the Midwest Athletic Conference and in 2007 and 2008 he was voted Regional Coach of the Year for region 24.

“We’re very excited to have Steve as the new head coach for the program,” said Ron Riggle, athletic director at LLCC. “He wants the athletes to succeed on and off the field.”

“I am very grateful for this opportunity to lead the Logger Baseball program,” said Torricelli. “I am honored to succeed Coach Riggle. I have been blessed to be under his guidance for the past nine years as an assistant coach at Lincoln Land. He has been a huge influence on my coaching experience. I plan to continue the rich tradition of teaching the fundamentals of baseball and winning baseball games.”
