Washington, D.C. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – One Springfield-based Congresswoman voted for the “One Big Beautiful Bill” in the House Thursday afternoon, while another voted against it.

Representative Mary Miller voted with most Republicans in passing the bill, while Representative Nikki Budzinski voted against it.

In a statement, Miller praised her party for what she described as a big victory for Republicans and the American people.

“The One Big, Beautiful Bill is a once-in-a-generation victory for the American people,” said Miller (IL-15), in a news release. “It delivers on President Trump’s America First agenda with bold, decisive, and immediate action. This is the most pro-worker, pro-family, pro-America legislation I have voted for during my time in Congress, and I was proud to help get it across the finish line for the hardworking Americans across my district.”

The bill reportedly gives tax breaks to wealthy Americans, while also implementing spending cuts.

Budzinski, meanwhile, says working families lost big with the measure that Pres. Donald Trump is expected to sign into law.

“Today, House Republicans officially pledged their loyalty to the billionaire class, delivering a profound betrayal to hardworking American families,” said Budzinski (IL-13), also in a news release.  “From the very beginning, I have been clear about how devastating this bill is for our country — for single mothers relying on SNAP, for children dependent on Medicaid, and for everyone except the ultra-wealthy. It’s the working class who deserve tax relief — not billionaires. Democrats fought tirelessly to block this bill, but not enough Republicans were willing to defend their communities from these cuts. I will continue standing firm to protect my district and the American people as this administration turns its back on them.”

Only two Republicans joined all Democrats in the House in voting “yes” on the bill, which The Associated Press reports also contains cuts to Medicaid, and money for border walls, among other things.
