Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – (UPDATE 10/23/24 11:10 a.m.) Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has identified the two Springfield men that died as a result of the collision on Veteran’s Parkway and West Jefferson Street. Anthony Carroll, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was done Tuesday, and preliminary findings show Carroll died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Christian Markey, 28, was transported by EMS from the scene of the incident and pronounced dead at Springfield Memorial Hospital, in the emergency room, at 12:32 a.m., shortly after his arrival. An autopsy was done Tuesday, and preliminary findings show Markey died from injuries he sustained in the crash.

(10/22 12:22 p.m.): Illinois State Police report the two-vehicle crash happened on Veteran’s Parkway just before midnight Tuesday. A 2005 Buick Allure traveling south on Route 4 was stopped at a stoplight. The driver of a 2005 Hyundai Accent was also traveling south, and according to ISP failed to reduce speed and struck the Buick. As a result of the collision, the Buick caught fire. The driver, a 40-year-old Springfield man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 28-year-old Springfield man driving the Hyundai was transported to Springfield Memorial Hospital, but did not survive. The road was closed during the investigation, but reopened just before 6 a.m.

(10/22 9:24 am) Two men are dead after an accident at Veteran’s Parkway and West Jefferson Street early Tuesday morning.  Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed a 40-year-old driver of one of the vehicles what pronounced dead at the scene. The 28-year-old drive of the second vehicle was transported to Springfield Memorial Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Their identities are not being released at this time while notification of next of kin is underway.  The collision remains under investigation.
