Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – University of Illinois Springfield has issued the following statement about the reported hack to Canvas:

Canvas, our learning management system, is currently offline due to an ongoing national cybersecurity incident affecting its parent company, Instructure. Colleges and universities across the country are experiencing the same issue.

At this time, we are waiting for additional information from the vendor about when service will be restored. Until then, course materials, exams, assignments, and other Canvas features will remain unavailable.  The university is actively working on next steps and will provide actionable guidance as soon as possible.

No proactive action is required from students, faculty or staff at this time. However, if you receive an email or any other communications purporting to be from Canvas or Instructure, we ask that you do not click on any links or respond to the email.

Users may hear that Canvas is available. If you notice that the Canvas system becomes available, please do not log in or engage in the platform until you receive an official campus communication stating that the platform is safe to use.

As additional information becomes available, we will post updates here: https://www.uis.edu/its/it-security/cybersecurity-incident-response

We will also send an update to the university community no later than 11:00 AM on Friday, May 8th.
