Champaign, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY) – The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has postponed all final exams and assignments through Sunday after an ongoing cybersecurity incident disrupted the Canvas learning platform used by students and faculty.

University officials say the disruption stems from a security breach involving Instructure, the parent company of Canvas, which reported the incident affecting more than 8,000 institutions nationwide.

According to University of Illinois Technology Services, the breach occurred Friday at the vendor level and involved unauthorized access to user information. Exposed data may include names, email addresses, student identification numbers, and course-related messages.

In addition to the security concerns, students across campus have reported widespread issues accessing coursework and course materials. University officials say learning content will remain unavailable until the platform’s parent company resolves the issue and restores secure access.

The university says it is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with the vendor while providing updates to students and faculty as more information becomes available.
