Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – At Tuesday evening’s Springfield City Council meeting, several eyesores in town were the topic of discussion and questions for Public Works Director David Fuchs.

Alderman Roy Willams asked about a property at South Grand and Wheeler Avenues that Williams said should have come down in July.  He told Fuchs the roof had been torn off the building but the entire structure needs to go. Corporation Counsel Greg Moredock said that property is scheduled to come down at the end of July according to a legal agreement.

Erin Conley, Ward 8 Alderwoman, asked Fuchs about mowing at an apartment complex on West Washington. Fuchs said Public Works can mow along the right of way but cannot mow on the property or an adjacent wood frame house.  Moredock says IEPA informed his office Public Works could mow on the property with the owner’s permission, but the owner so far has not granted permission, so the City is pursing legal channels.

And the brick building near MacArthur and Laurel – not the old Baskin Robbins store but across the street – has become a problem, said Alderwoman Jennifer Notariano. She asked Fuchs for an update but he has not yet received requested information and will follow up.
