SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – Viakable is investing $55 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Illinois. The Mexican company is one of many international businesses deciding to grow in Illinois following recent trade missions.

The LaSalle cable manufacturer plans to build a 22,000-square-foot addition and add 17 advanced machines to its facility. State leaders said the company will have a new electrical substation to boost capacity in wire drawing, cabling and packaging.

“We believe that the company’s growth should go hand in hand with the growth of the company,” said Viakable USA Operations Director Martin Quintanilla. “That is why we want to continue investing here, creating quality jobs, developing our people, and contributing to the economic growth of Illinois.”

Viakable’s investment will create 50 new full-time jobs and retain 65 existing positions. The company hopes this expansion will increase its manufacturing capacity for the country’s electrical infrastructure market.

“Our economic development efforts are targeting the industries that will define the economy of the future,” said Gov. JB Pritzker. “Advanced manufacturing, clean energy, quantum, and life sciences, among so many others.”

The Pritzker administration said this expansion is a result of the state’s trade mission to Mexico in 2025, which focused on deepening economic ties and attracting new business investments to Illinois.

“For a company like XIGNUX, whose products help power our electrical infrastructure, there’s tremendous opportunity in Illinois,” said Illinois Economic Development Corporation CEO Christy George. “We’re proud that XIGNUX and Viakable are making this investment in LaSalle. As you continue to grow, Illinois is ready to grow with you.”

Companies participating in the state’s Economic Development for a Growing Economy, or EDGE, program have committed to creating nearly 6,000 new jobs and more than $2.6 billion in investments so far this year.
