Moweaqua, IL (WAND) – Volunteers gathered in Moweaqua Sunday to pack thousands of meals for families in Haiti.
Over 200 people joined “Jamesly’s Packathon” with the goal of packing over 50,000 meals.
The event is personal for organizer Jamesly Jesse, who survived the 2010 Haiti earthquake and is now giving back as a high school senior and Eagle Scout.
“This community deeply understands what it means to serve others and take care of the less fortunate, and that’s what we’re celebrating,” said organizer Cathy Davey.
The meals packed Sunday will be shipped to New Jersey, then sent to Haiti, where they will be distributed to children, families, and the elderly facing severe food insecurity.
