Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – (Update 9/30) – The victim in Sunday’s shooting in the 400 block of S. Illinois Ave. has been identified by Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon as Telley Palmer of Columbus, Ohio. Springfield Police report they responded to the area on Sunday around 2:30 a.m. for a report of several shots fired and a subject who had been shot. Palmer, 29, was found with approximately 12 gunshot wounds, according to SPD. 

Detectives reportedly located about 35 shell casings from three different firearms, and one firearm was recovered at the scene. Ballistic testing is underway.  

The shooting stemmed from a fight involving multiple individuals earlier in the night at a local Springfield bar. Although the bar fight was physical, police had not been notified of the altercation.

Springfield Police are asking anyone in the area who has video footage of the shooting or suspicious activity to contact them.

(9/29) Springfield Police are conducting a homicide investigation after a 29-year-old man died early Sunday. The man was transported to Springfield Memorial Hospital around 3:30 a.m. from the 400 block of South Illinois Street and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon. 

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday. The man’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification. No other details are available at this time.
