Jacksonville, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) — Take a short drive west of Springfield, and you can take in the sight of the world’s tallest Advent calendar. The Farmers State Bank and Trust Company has once again transformed its 110-foot-tall historic building at 200 W. State St. into a giant countdown to Christmas. Each day through Dec. 24, a window featuring seasonal symbols, historical figures from Jacksonville, and holiday favorites will be revealed to celebrate the season.

The tradition, inspired by a similar display in Uelzen, Germany, began in 2022 when Jacksonville resident Patrick Kennedy saw the potential in the bank’s 24 windows. Visitors can also stop by the bank’s lobby during business hours for sweet treats.

The calendar will remain on display through Jan. 5. Joy French Becker, bank president, said the project reflects the bank’s commitment to rejuvenating downtown Jacksonville and creating holiday magic.
