(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The city of Lincoln seems to be experiencing something of a crime wave.

The Lincoln Police, Joe Meister, has issued a news release asking merchants to stop accepting checks from anyone, especially from people they do not know. He says if merchants should choose to continue the practice be sure and ask a photos ID and don’t accept a check if it doesn’t pass muster.

The police chief goes on to say burglary and thefts have increased in the area over the past few months so they are asking residents to take steps to ensure their property is safe and secure.

He recommends strong locks, bright motion detector lighting and even cameras to help police in any investigations.

Meister says they have been making arrests and property has been recovered.
