Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – One hundred smoked turkeys were donated to St. John’s Breadline at a Friday afternoon ceremony at the downtown charity.

The Illinois Life & Health Insurance Council, State Senator Doris Turner and Turasky Meats made the donation to be part of the breadlines Thanksgiving Day offering.

Catholic Charities director, Patrick McConnell, says they expect to serve 300 to 400 people that day. He says it will be a little more formal during the holiday, eschewing the usual ‘cafeteria’ style of serving, instead volunteers and staff will come to tables and take orders from the patrons.

Council president Laura Minzer says the Thanksgiving Day meals will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 28. She says the breadline is open 365 days a year and is always free and open to all.
