Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) Ward 1 Alderman Chuck Redpath is now former Alderman and Springfield’s new City Clerk.
Controversy continued to swirl around the office at tonight’s Springfield City Council meeting. Several members of City Council wanted to hold off on the vote, wanting time to see who else may have applied for the position and talk to any other candidates.
Ward 6 Alderwoman Jennifer Notariano said it was impossible to have much time to look at any other prospective candidates – or make a decision to vote in Redpath – as Frank Lesko, who won the office in November resigned right before the New Year’s Holiday.
When asked why the process wasn’t more open, Corporation Counsel Greg Moredock, explained the Council has the option to put a process in place to decide how to fill the vacancy.
In the end, Redpath was voted into the office by a simple majority. He reiterated that he would not run for another term for City Clerk, but instead only finish out the remainder of the current term.
