(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Illinois Department of Public Health has approved four new conditions for medical cannabis treatment: endometriosis, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, and female orgasmic disorder.
This is the first update to the program since 2019, bringing the total approved conditions to 56. The decision, effective immediately, followed a review by the Medical Cannabis Advisory Board and IDPH staff.
The newly approved conditions include:
Endometriosis: Painful tissue growth outside the uterus. Cannabis helps manage severe pain.
Ovarian cysts: Fluid-filled sacs on or in ovaries. Cannabis eases pain.
Uterine fibroids: Noncancerous growths causing pelvic pain. Cannabis provides relief.
Female orgasmic disorder: Difficulty reaching orgasm. Cannabis may help improve symptoms.
Healthcare providers can now certify patients with these conditions for treatment. A full list of eligible conditions is available on the IDPH website.
