Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The Springfield Police Department has alerted residents to a phone scam where callers pose as law enforcement officers. These scammers falsely claim that the recipient has an active warrant and must make an immediate payment to avoid arrest.

The department clarified that it never requests payment over the phone. Residents are advised to hang up immediately if they receive such a call and to refrain from providing any personal or financial information.

Authorities are encouraging the public to share this information to help prevent others from becoming victims of the scam.
