Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) — Some international students and recent graduates at the University of Illinois Springfield have had their F-1 visa status terminated, according to a message from Chancellor Janet L. Gooch.

This comes as similar reports have surfaced from universities across the country. Many students lost their visa status without any warning.

Gooch said the UIS International Student Services team has been tracking the situation. Staff have reached out to affected students and graduates to offer help, including information about contacting immigration attorneys.

“I understand the severity of this news and how unsettling it may be for those affected and their loved ones,” she wrote in her letter.

The university has also created a website with information about immigration for the campus community. UIS officials said they are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
