Lincoln, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The outage of NOAA Weather Radio stations and other associated things planned for this week involving the National Weather Service in Lincoln is taking longer.
The Weather Service says what was supposed to be about a 48 hour outage in order to upgrade systems is going, according to a Facebook post, “slower than expected.”
The outage and upgrades were expected to end Thursday, but now the forecasters say it will last until 6 p.m. Friday.
Warnings are still being issued through other Weather Service offices. But they say you should have an alternate way like through your smartphone to get severe weather warnings, because weather radios won’t work during the time.
Forecasters say the upgrades were required and could not be delayed.
