Carlinville, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The “clawback” bill, which undid $9 billion previously approved for foreign aid and public broadcasting, frightens U.S. Rep. Nikki Budzinski (D-Springfield), who says it opens the door to chaos.

The bill passed late last week, with only two Republicans voting against.

“What is so deeply troubling about that is those funds were negotiated on a bipartisan basis and agreed to and appropriated,” said the congresswoman. “And so now that this president doesn’t like something, these Republicans that are afraid of him and are moving in lockstep with him are now willing to walk back their own appropriations process.

“I don’t know where that leaves us as we look ahead to getting a fed budget done.”

President Trump says public radio and television are biased toward the left and should not get federal funding.

Budzinski spoke to reporters Friday after her food insecurity roundtable in Carlinville.
