(capitolcitynow.com) – Illinois could be next to legalize doctor-assisted suicides. Some with disabilities – and those who work in mental health – say that’s a bad idea.

From Bloomington-based Chestnut Health Systems, Dr. Kevin Garner says some doctors won’t try hard enough to prevent suicide:

“There’s evidemce that depression and existl issues such as hope and loneliness can nfluence the wish to die and are commonly missed by busy doctors as a hospice phys i am appalled that this bill ignores the symptoms, including pain, depression, and anxiety, can be controlled by proper palliative interventions. This bill legitimizes and promotes suicide instead of suicide prevention.”

There’s an assisted suicide bill in a Senate sub-committee.
