Illinois’ march toward legalizing so-called “magic mushrooms” continues. Senators Thursday listened to testimony from Jean Lacy, who turned to psilocybin after a pregnancy riddled with blood clots.

“After even a single session, I was able to break the patterns in my brain that were keeping me in my traumatized state,” she said. “I finally became the mother I always hoped I could be. Now, at 16, 14, and 10 years old, my children have an active. engaged mother to guide them through life, and I no longer rely on pharmaceutical interventions for my mental health.”

Lacy, who lives near Peoria, now heads the Illinois Psychedelic Society.

Lawmakers have taken no vote on the bill.
