SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – For the second time in four months, a member of Springfield police brass has been cited for DUI.
The department’s transparency page reports: “On October 23, the Springfield Police Department was made aware that Lt. Charles Peters was arrested for DUI by the Illinois State Police. Lt. Peters is currently serving pre-approved time off. At the conclusion of his pre-approved leave, Lt. Peters will be placed on administrative leave. SPD has opened an internal affairs investigation and will have no further comment until that investigation has concluded.”
On July 4, then-Sgt. Lindzee Carpenter was arrested for DUI in Chatham. Her criminal case is still in the courts, but department discipline included a 30-day suspension and a demotion to patrol.
