Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) –Sangamon County Clerk Don Gray announced today that the County Board District 26 office will now be on the November 5 General Election ballot for a 2-year unexpired term.
“Sadly, due to the recent passing of County Board District 26 Member John O’Neill, this office will appear on the 2024 General Election ballot for a 2-year unexpired term,” said Gray.
Gray went on to further explain the process to determine the candidates. “Since more than 28 months remain in this term, the office is required to be filled by election for the remainder of the term at the 2024 General Election.
As far as determining the party candidates to be on the ballot, it is the County Board District 26 Committee of each established party (which is comprised of the precinct committeepersons in County Board District 26), who shall meet and fill this vacancy on the ballot by August 28, 2024.”
Appointed candidates are required to file a Resolution to Fill a Vacancy in Nomination, Statement of Candidacy Form and Statement of Economic Interest Receipt.
Whomever is elected in November, would then serve until 2026, when this office was scheduled to next appear on the ballot. Additional information can be obtained by calling the Election Office at 217-753-8683
