Springfield, IL  (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Sonya Massey’s autopsy reveals the gunshot entered beneath her left eye and exited through her neck. Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon released the report Friday morning. The report also indicates Massey’s left internal carotid artery was perforated, and a skull fracture and subarachnoid hemorrhages were present.

The official cause of death is listed as a gunshot wound to the head.  The autopsy was performed by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Nathaniel Patterson and signed July 19.

Evidence of medical treatment after the shooting was present at the time of the autopsy and included a breathing tube, a tube from her mouth to stomach, EKG patches and a lead for a pulse oximeter to measure the oxygen saturation level in the blood.
