SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Everyone’s got an opinion about their workplace. Right?
District 186 superintendent Terrance Jordan said Monday results are in from a staff survey. About 500 participated. One topic covered: transportation / feedback. “People wanted to know the root cause of the budget deficit and the origin of the budget deficit, detailed line items, and visual financial reporting. And they want it to be accessible,” said Jordan.
When it came time for staff members to suggest ways to save money, Jordan said, “The top three recurring themes were: reducing administrative overhead and central office staff, scaling back technology and redundant software, and consolidating facilities and unused buildings. When we say facilities, we are talking about consolidating schools. For unused buildings, we have buildings that we do not currently have students in.”
The administrative overhead and school consolidation ideas turned up in another of six categories of feedback. The District 186 web site lists thirteen central office administrators.
For those of you who might say of the suggestions, “easier said than done,” Jordan agrees. For all of them!
