SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Lincoln Land Community College has officially welcomed Everest, its new outreach and therapy dog, to the campus police department.
During a special ceremony, LLCC Police Chief Chris Russell gave Everest an oath of office. The dog’s role includes providing comfort to students and staff, helping reduce stress and anxiety, and serving as an ambassador for the police department.
Everest sealed the oath with a pawprint signature and was welcomed by students and employees.
LLCC President Dr. Curt Oldfield said therapy dogs can help create a welcoming and supportive campus environment.
“Everest has already been spreading joy among our students, faculty and staff, bringing comfort to people during both everyday moments and challenging times,” Oldfield said.
Everest succeeds Pawfficer Ember, who retired in August after three years of service at the college.
Everest is sponsored by West Lake Animal Hospital and Pup E. Tails Pet Grooming.
