Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Retired University of Illinois Springfield chancellor Richard Ringeisen has passed away. A letter to campus Tuesday from current chancellor Janet Gooch says Ringeisen died Tuesday morning in South Carolina. He was chancellor from 2001 to 2010. Gooch’s letter credits Ringeisen for shepherding the university from a two-year to a four-year institution, for overseeing a construction boom at UIS, and shepherding the athletic program from NAIA to NCAA Division II. Richard Ringeisen was 81.
