Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Dancing at Lughnasa debuts this weekend at the Hoogland.
It’s a celebrated play from Ireland about the life of family in 1930 Donegal.
One of the stars of the show, Missy Thibodeaux-Thompson, visited the WTAX Morning Newswatch to talk about the production.
She says it’s an eight-character memory play where a man recalls events from his life growing up in a house filled with five sisters, his mom and his Uncle Jack.
Thompson says it’s the most celebrated play by Irish playwright Brian Freel. She claims to have been a fan of the play since she read it in college 30 years prior.
She calls it funny and heart-warming and says its themes of family bonds are universal.
Dancing at Lughnasa begins Friday night at the Hoogland Center for the Arts and runs through Sunday. To find out more or reserve tickets go to HCFTA.org
