Lincoln, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The National Weather Service is now saying at least twelve tornadoes touched down in Central Illinois during the severe weather outbreak of Wednesday.

Forecasters in Lincoln say most of those were EF-0 or EF-1.

At least four of those tornadoes were reported in Morgan County. One of the strongest ones north of Jacksonville likely EF-1, and was one of two to hit that city.  The most serious damage was to the Future Champions Sports Complex.

Another near Literberry was the strongest of all those reported so far, at EF-2, with winds near 125 miles per hour.  It did damage to a farmstead and home, also knocking down power poles, and traveled six miles before it lifted near the Morgan/Cass County line.

A tornado near Pleasant Plains had winds near 100 miles per hour and did damage to a farm.

Another near Petersburg was also EF-1 and winds near 110 miles per hour and destroyed several grain bins.

No one was hurt.
