Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The body of a man found Thursday on Springfield’s west side has been identified, but a cause of death has not yet been determined.
Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon says the man was determined to be Derek Wartenbe, 37, following what Allmon called a “post mortem procedure.” Springfield Police told an area television station Friday the body, found in a wooded area near MacArthur Boulevard and Wabash Avenue Thursday night, had been in an advanced state of decomposition.
Allmon says preliminary autopsy findings indicated no signs of trauma, so additional examinations in order to determine a cause of death are needed.
Springfield Police is also investigating the death.
