SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – One of the great joys of my job at Capitol Media Group is building relationships with our business and community partners. As marketing professionals, we believe those relationships are essential to the work we do.
Before a business owner or manager trusts you to tackle their marketing challenges, you have to make a connection. You need to understand their business, listen to their concerns, and learn what success looks like to them. Skip that step, and you risk becoming a “take the money and run” salesperson. And that has very little to do with helping a business succeed over the long term.
I’ve encountered too many of those “marketing professionals” during my career. Yes, the quotation marks are intentional!
At Capitol Media Group, we focus on long-term marketing solutions. I’m proud of that. When we meet with a business owner or manager, our job is to help them attract more customers: more clicks, more visits, more calls, and more opportunities to earn someone’s business.
A short-term campaign can help promote a weekend blowout sale or a special event. But building awareness, earning trust, and becoming the business people think of first takes consistency and commitment.
That’s why I believe strong business relationships are the foundation of successful long-term marketing.
When someone invests in a campaign with us, they’re also investing in the person helping guide it. They trust us to execute the plan, stay involved, and pay attention to what’s working—and where we may need to make adjustments.
I take that responsibility personally. I want to stay close to our business partners throughout a campaign, discuss opportunities as they arise, and make thoughtful changes when needed. The relationship should continue to grow long after the agreement is signed.
One of the best signs that we’ve earned that trust is a simple word: “we.”
“We should run this campaign for six months.”
“We should consider adding this sponsorship.”
“How can we build on these results?”
When the conversation starts to sound like that, something important has happened. The media advisor has become a trusted extension of the business. Both people are invested in the plan, and both are working toward the same goal: turning marketing efforts into more customers.
To me, that’s gold.
If you’d like to get your business wanted, found, and chosen more often, we’d welcome the opportunity to learn more about your goals and show you how Capitol Media Group can help.
You could be our next great business relationship.
